The Series 7
The Series 7 Examination formally known as the General Securities Representative Examination is for people who want to become a stock broker or financial advisor in the securities industry. In order to employ with a registered broker dealer one may have to obtain the Series 7 license. Depending on which state you and or your future clients may reside in, the Series 63 license may also have to be obtained. Upon passing the Series 7, you will be eligible to sell securities products and register with all self regulatory organizations to trade on the behalf of others. The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority administers the Series 7 exam and you must pass the Series 7 prior to taking various principle exams offered through The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority. The Series 7 Exam has 250 multiple choice questions given in two parts of 125 questions each. Candidates have a total of 3 hours to complete each of the two parts of the exam. The test covers a broad range of investments including, investment company products, stocks, bonds, limited partnerships, options, open & closed-end funds. Prior to acting as an agent for retail investors, candidates must achieve a 70% to pass this comprehensive examination.
